A 45-year-old man has been charged with murder after a body believed to be that of his wife was found at the scene of a suspicious house fire west of Brisbane on Tuesday morning.

When emergency services arrived at the home on Strack Road in Geham, north of Toowoomba, about 3am, it was “fully engulfed” in flames.

Fire crews had the blaze under control by 4am. After initial searches of the scene, police and fire investigators found the body of a woman, believed to be that of mother Louise Hunt.

Police declared a crime scene and homicide detectives from Brisbane arrived to assist local officers.

On Tuesday afternoon, police located 45-year-old Cameron Hunt almost 200 kilometres away in Redcliffe. He was later charged with murder and arson.

Police have yet to identify the body found in the house, awaiting results from “inquiries and scientific examinations” on the remains.

Hunt was expected to appear in Toowoomba Magistrates Court on Wednesday.
