The Community Spotlight 2025.02.15
Welcome to the latest edition of the Giant Bomb Community Spotlight! I, @zombiepie, am once again honored to be your host as we look back at the site-elated news and best community creations from the week!
It was a quiet week from the Giant Bomb community, but I have yet to let that be an excuse to miss publishing one of these.
The anti-spam IT ticket I mentioned last week should be live. Presently, the site should be auto-blocking or nuking a post or comment if the content contains greater than 70% links. They also are going to set the site’s filters to nuke the post/comment if the content contains greater than 50% alternative unicode characters (e.g. 𝙴𝚡𝚙𝚎𝚍𝚒𝚊 𝚘𝚏𝚏𝚎𝚛𝚜… vs Expedia offers…).” If you notice anything that fits both of those criteria that wasn’t deleted quickly, please take a screenshot and share it in the “Bug Reporting” boards.
Bluesky embed support is moving into early testing. Engineers are testing a modified version of the editor that supports Bluesky, so if you notice embeds suddenly working for you one moment and then that suddenly stops, that’s your sign they are doing some interesting experiments with the site. Full disclosure, a majority of the site engineers are located in Poland, which is part of the reason why site updates happen at EU-friendly hours. They are aiming for full Bluesky embed support by the end of February or early March barring any technical issues. Also, in my meeting with a Fandom rep, they did admit that they were annoyed that image dragging and dropping on the site did not work by default and wanted that to not be the case in the future.
We have a positive update on the new fan-run Giant Bomb Infinite alternative on Twitch called GiantBombForever! ogto has made a BUNCH of fun custom bumpers for the feature that use more recent Giant Bomb staff moments as well as plenty of classic ones to keep people excited. If you click that last link, you can watch all of them. Presently, things seem to be going well for the thing and I still have a playlist on YouTube for those of you that want to watch the old bumpers and transitions for nostalgia.
Finally, former site engineer and director Dave Snider posted an entire collection of all his designs for Giant Bomb and Whiskey Media over the years. it’s hard for me to look at some of these designs and not get a little misty eyed because much of this feels like a deeply connected part of my personal upbringing. Here are some of the screenshots from Dave’s museum that really got me smiling.

Hey, will you look at that! Dan finally beat Drake of the 99 Dragons and has managed to topple the gauntlet thrown at him by Alex Navarro. Regardless if you thought he dragged his heels a bit, he beat both games that were required and it provided endless entertainment for everyone to enjoy. As such, Pickle_Giraffe has a an Animated Blight Club that closes the book on what has been an exhilarating ride.
